September 10th - Volunteering & Club Policies

September 17, 2025

Quick Note from the Club Office
Development Programs will start the week of Sunday, September 28 (not September 21). The change is due to the City of Edmonton extending the Kinsmen shutdown until the end of September. Our satellite pools are currently used by displaced provincial and national swimmers who have a stricter timeline on which to prepare for upcoming competitions. To adjust for this, we will add Development practices before Christmas to ensure 100% of the training sessions and meet all program goals. Our Key Dates for 2025-26 will be posted shortly on our Training Schedules page.

Volunteering & Club Policies
As part of being a member of our swim club, we want to ensure all families have a clear understanding of our club policies and the important role that volunteering plays in supporting our swimmers and programs. Our club relies on the combined efforts of parents, coaches, and volunteers to create a positive and successful environment for our athletes, and your involvement makes a big difference.

Here is the basic info on what you need to know to get started:

Bingo Commitments

Why Bingos Matter

  • Bingos raise over $400,000 each year for our club.
  • One bingo shift = $200+ value toward reducing training fees.
  • Completing 3 shifts = $600 savings on your child’s program.

Are Bingos Mandatory?

  • Bingos are a privilege, not mandatory.
  • Families may opt out during registration or by emailing the Bingo Coordinator.
  • Opting out = an additional $200 per bingo added to your annual training fees.

What Do You Do at a Bingo?

  • Most members sell small cards to patrons.
  • Other tasks: distributing cards, handling cash, or assisting staff.
  • No experience needed — everything can be learned on site.
  • Dress casually and neatly (clean shirt + jeans/pants).
  • Many families enjoy the social side of volunteering at bingos.

Things to Know

  • All bingos just be completed by August 31 each season and signed up before July 31st
  • Any unmet bingos requirements will be charged on Aug 1st, 2026 at $200 per shift not completed
  • Members designated as a ‘no show’ will be charged $300 per shift
  • Members designated as a 'no show' more than once will be reviewed and may have their privilege to work bingos removed.
  • Full details are posted here: www.eksc.com/menu/bingos

Dates are posted on the Events tab of the EKSC website. Christine also sends sign-up emails.

Participation Points (Volunteering at Swim Meets)

Why It’s Important

  • Swim meets are essential for athlete development.
  • Meets rely on parent volunteers (timers, officials, marshals, electronics, etc.).

Participation Points Commitment

  • Each family must complete a set number of points each season.
  • The required points vary by swimmer’s group level.
  • As your child progresses, your volunteer roles usually progress too, earning more points per shift.

How to Get Started

  1. Create or log in to your Swimming Canada officiating account (instructions come from officials@eksc.com in Sept/Oct).
  2. For Keyano-hosted meets: sign up under the Events tab (Job Sign-Up button).
  3. Other clubs may allow volunteers case by case. Members must track their own points.

Things to Know

  • Meets are targeted at different swimmer levels (Development vs Performance). See Meet Calendar
  • All points must be completed by Aug 31 each season.
  • Unmet points = billed at $10 per point.
  • Families with multiple swimmers receive a rebate; max required is 120 points per family.
  • Full details (points per role) are posted each year: www.eksc.com/menu/participation-points.
