Olympic & Paraympic Trials 2024
Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials for the 2024 Olympics in Paris will begin this week from May 14-19, 2024 in Scarborough, Ontario. Swimmers must qualify for this competition with the fastest standard in Canada, and those who make it to the Trials will compete for a spot on the 2024 Canadian Olympic Team.
To qualify for the Olympics: Swimmers must win or place 2nd in an event and swim under the Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT - equivalent to the 14th place at the previous Olympics; an incredibly high standard).
To qualify for the Paralympics: Swimmers must place in the top 3 in an event and meet a slightly more complicated set of criteria, including swimming a Canada 'A' time and a maximum of 15 women spots and 7 men spots available to Canada.
Edmonton Keyano is sending 16 swimmers to the Trials, one of the largest teams in Canada. Also of note, Keyano swimmer Emma Finlin has the unique distinction of entering these Trials as the only swimmer already on the Olympic Team as she made it in the 10km Open Water from the World Trials event that took place in Dubai in February 2024. She is also top ranked in the 800m and 1500m Freestyle events at these Trials. Keyano para-swimmer Reid Maxwell also enters the Trials as one of Canada's top ranked swimmers having set multiple National Para-swimming records already this season. Help us cheer on all of Keyano's swimmers and check back to see how everyone does throughout the week!
We will share highlights from all of Keyano's swimmers right here on our website. You can also check out the results yourself or watch the events live on CBC Gem, Finals coverage starts daily at 3:45pm MT and is available on replay.
