Over the weekend of January 15th,
The Bears were in action at the annual Blue Bear meet. Keyano fielded its largest team in years, with
over 100 swimmers in the meet, this was another encouraging sign of
great things to come on Keyano’s horizon. Coming out of training camp, the swimmers were all
in a state of fatigue and pretty beat up from all the hard work
they had put in during the first cycle as they prepare for and
focus on Western champs and/or the Provincial champs. That being the case, the swimmers showed their
hardened resolve as they knew that racing hard was just part of
what we do. Race after race, the
swimmers went hard from start to finish with little left in the
tank at the end.
Amongst all the usual suspects, Keyano had
several younger swimmers in action from Bonnie Doon, Confederation
and Jasper Place, these kids represent the future of the club and
were all eager competitors this past week end. Several of the swimmers from those ranks qualified
a new standard that will allow them access to the provincial
championship meets in March.
With over 100 swimmers in the meet, Keyano
posted a strong score, winning both the girls and boys side of the
meet. As a compliment to that,
congratulations to Kyle Folk, Lili Margitai, Devon Bibault &
Richard Funk for earning the high point award in their respective
age categories.
There were 3 club records broken over the
course of the week-end, Claire Yurkovich broke the 11-12 girls 1500
free record in a time of 18:30.03 & Kyle Folk broke the club
record in the 50 free and the 800 free in the following times;
26.69 and 9:40.36.
Congratulations and great job to all the bears
in action this past week end.
